Project Description:

The New Jersey Conservation Foundation in association with 15 other nonprofit land conservation groups organizes a one-day conference of educational workshops about land conservation techniques, trends and issues. It is called the Annual New Jersey Land Conservation Rally and it will be held this year on March 20, 2010 at Montclair State University.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Introduce someone new to land conservation.”  We are trying to promote participation by students at this year’s event.  We need some help in planning & putting the conference together.  We especially want to attract future conservation leaders, first-timers & especially students, to this event.  The accomplishment anticipated is a well attended reflecting a diverse population, well run conference.   The beneficiaries are the attendees who include professionals in state, county & municipal governments as well as nonprofit organizations, volunteers, and advocates involved in land conservation.  Elected officials, including state legislators and mayors, will be invited.  The Governor has been invited to address the group.  Beneficiaries of the project also include the people of NJ who use and enjoy lands preserved by a community of land savers who learn creative, effective techniques and strategies at this event.

The intern will help with all aspects of the rally:

  • Registration
  • Recruitment of attendees, especially students
  • Email reminders & alerts in rally news
  • Production of materials, such as the program
  • Organization of the physical layout at the conference center
  • Powerpoint of land conservation successes in NJ
  • Coordinating speakers
  • Production of directional signage, onsite maps, packet materials
  • Organize & recruit exhibitors
  • Develop program

Nature of anticipated impact: Social, Economic, Environmental

Evaluation Plan:
We have evaluation forms for each workshop in the conference as well as the overall conference. This is the 13th rally to take place in NJ.
